With a strong focus on preserving our history and keeping our planet green, the team at Solid Masonry strives to offer high quality historic restoration services. We provide services in Ottawa and the surrounding areas. Nearly every building in Ottawa pre-1930 is built on a stone foundation. They are built very well, as demonstrated by the tens of thousands of century homes in the Ottawa area still standing strong.
However, most have never been properly restored. Deep repointing and sections of stone rebuilding are often required on century homes. Done right, the repairs will last many decades before more maintenance is required. It's cold outside and there is snow on the ground. It's a good time curl up by a beautiful fireplace with a good book and a glass of wine or a hot cup of tea.
Dry stone walling is or dry laid stone work is stone construction without the use of mortar. Dry stone work is usually used for fences and retaining walls but is also used for stair cases, bridges and can be creatively used for many other purposes.

Our primary objective is to provide high quality craftsmanship and excellent client relations - with this in mind we explain every step of the job to our clients while providing clean, long lasting, solid work. Contact us to get started! Brick restoration is an art of matching colour, texture and using traditional materials to maintain the breathability of the wall which helps traditional structures last for centuries.
Taylor MacDonald and his crew from Solid Masonry impressed us with professionalism, courtesy, and good nature, from start to finish. Our project in the Spring of 2013 was one requiring a contractor with the willingness and patience to oversee a relatively complicated project involving six (6) neighbours.

Taylor and his team completed a very large project at our house including redoing mortar for all above grade foundations, fixing and replacing several areas with brick, and complete above roof rebuild of our chimney. Unfortunately the scope grew as we encountered more items but they took the work on and finished within a timely manner. Very pleased with the workmanship - job well done! Never thought masonry work could get me so excited!!!

Taylor and his team completed several very large projects on our 1850s heritage home including repointing all the walls, building a monumental 6ft tall dry stone wall around the property, and several smaller repairs on pre-existing stone columns (removing and replacing stones to gain access to the innards).
The pricing has always been fair and honest. His crew hardworking, knowledgeable, polite, and on-time. Taylor also makes sure that everything is cleaned up after the fact and that no messes are left behind.
Highly recommended for any masonry work.
