Direct Cedar Supplies, located in the picturesque Fraser Valley of British Columbia, has been manufacturing and brokering cedar shakes and shingles for over 20 years. Direct Cedar Supplies can provide you with any look and dimension you are looking for. All Western Red Cedar products are available in thicknesses starting from 3/8", and can even be purchased with thicknesses up to 2"!.
Cedar blocks of appropriate length are split by a hydraulically powered knife, called a cuber, into straight boards, or blanks. Then the blank is fed into a bandsaw, which saws the blank from corner to corner, producing 2 tapered shakes, each with a natural split face and sawn back. Shakes are produced in 2 lengths, 455mm and 610mm, and 2 grades, Number 1, which allows 20% flat grain content, and Premium Grade, which is 100% vertical grain.

I spent a ton of time researching various companies for roofing supplies, and this company stood head and shoulders above all others combined. Paul Wilson was extremely personal and totally professional—and it didn't hurt that Direct Cedar's prices were the best I could find. If you're looking for roofing supplies, your search just ended. My roofer didn't want to deal with buying the material because I wanted to replace my cedar shakes with cedar shakes again. I researched a lot of companies and talked to a lot of sales people some knew a little but not enough until I talked to Paul Wilson and I got the answers I needed and with his help and recommendations I ordered the materials and started the roofing project which looks awesome.
