Services
Our story began with Michell Farm, established in the 1800s on the Saanich Peninsula. From this family of farmers came Willard Michell, who began specializing in custom tractor work with his son, Maurice. This father and son duo used their equipment and experience to serve those in their community: farmers, homeowners, and business people.
The Michell team is a dedicated and diverse crew. Around 50 people strong, we're mechanics, machine operators, labourers, truck drivers, and office and operations staff. We may have different specialties, but we share much in common: a can-do, hands-on approach to our work and an unwavering loyalty to the company and to each other.
We do excavation for commercial, civil, and residential projects. No job is too big or too small, as our range of equipment lets us do it all: from performing bulk excavations to squeezing into the tightest spaces. Our excavation services include bulk excavations, road prep, residential landscaping, house excavations, subdivisions, civil pipework, site servicing, and backfilling.
Our goal is to provide you with the perfect material for your construction and landscaping projects. We work with local suppliers to source a wide range of aggregates, and we produce our own soils, mulches, and manures. Our topsoils, specially formulated for Vancouver Island terrain, are tested every month in Vancouver, creating superior products landscape architects can rely on.
Premium Garden Blend, a rich blend of organics that is most commonly used in flower beds and vegetable gardens. Natural plant food, this blend requires no other fertilizer to produce optimum plant growth. Lawn Blend, which comes with extra sand, is particularly good for lawn prep and helps with root growth and drainage.

Beware buying anything from here. We bought just over $400 worth of dirt and they charged over $4000 to our credit card! It has been 8 days and we are STILL waiting for a credit to make it to our bank. They don’t care. They’ve done nothing to expedite our credit, and have not once offered us anything for the nightmare they have created. Every time we call them they pretend to be shocked we have not received it yet. They have NEVER called us to follow up or to confirm we have received our credit. Disgusting customer service.

Live the self serve area with the drop box for payment. I am also able to pull in with the trailer and they can load it up when i need a bigger load. Office gal at the window was a bit abrupt in taking payment and answering questions. Perhaps she was at the end of a long week or the new safety procedures were a stress point for her. Will be back for sure.

Nice to have a local place for soil, gravel etc. I've found them to be easy to deal with. They have a self-load soil area out front with handy tools that you can use to fill bags to put in your car. It's really inexpensive too which is great for homeowners. If you're willing to do a little work, this place is a way better deal than buying soil by the bag at the big box stores.
