The Door Store was established in 1972, when owner Sam Mirshak was a student of Architecture at the University of Toronto. Witnessing scores of crude renovations and thoughtless demolitions in Toronto's charming Annex neighbourhood prompted Sam to open a small store on Queen Street selling the salvaged architectural fragments that were otherwise headed for the dump.
Since then, The Door Store has had several homes and has grown to become one of Toronto's best-loved stores. Currently housed in an 11,000 square foot showroom, The Door Store is a family business owned and operated by father-daughter team Sam & Leila Mirshak. We pride ourselves in being an invaluable resource to design professionals and homeowners alike, and in providing exceptional quality, service and expertise to our clients.

Our registers are measured by duct opening size, not overall size, and they have about a 1 lip around all sides. So a 4"x10" register will measure about 6"x12" overall. Whenever possible, it is best to shop for registers before laying new flooring or having existing flooring refinished so that you can be a little flexible for size.

I love this place. Been numerous times. Every time, exceptional customer service. And they have a section where toddlers can hang out! They don't pressure you to buy, they are just so incredibly kind and helpful. Just a week ago, I came in because I had been sold doorknobs over at Ginger's that were the wrong size and they had refused to return them (Ginger's is terrible, stay away) and the door store took all the doorknobs and shortened them and actually fixed them and I had to insist to pay them. FANTASTIC people, I will absolutely come back.

Absolutely amazing collection of hardware, unique pieces and antiques of all ages and sizes.
However, pricing is beyond obscene...
Hardware that should cost no more than $5 is priced at $30. What would you pay for a cast iron hook? Just one. The kind you hang your coat on. With a spray painted black finish. $2? Maybe $3? Nope. $20. STARTING AT. Just obscene.
But if you're willing to bend over, they'll definitely have what you're looking for.

I am not knowledgeable enough about antiques to be able to explain or express how perfect this store is. But I will 100% back up everything "A K." posted on 2/10/2011. I wish I knew this store existed 30 years ago but now will be going back as many times possible. It's not just their inventory but how everything is displayed. The space is full and yet spacious. Everything is easy to look at and beautifully decorated/ merchandised. I had been corresponding via email with Dan previous to visiting and was lucky enough to meet him in person to complete my order/ purchase and he was so

This place is fantastic. I’ve been researching and planning on buying new doors and using antique hinges and hardware for a restoration project and these guys have the odd parts.
I literally spent hours in a few trips here getting educated on door hardware. I’ve spoken with 4 different guys here and everyone gave me their full divided attention and educated me about everything I needed for my restoration project. Overall I give the staff here 6 stars and 3 thumbs up 👍

This place has an immense inventory of architectural antiques and is an addictive pleasure to visit. Huge, glorious Victorian and Edwardian leaded glass windows, richly patina'd door and window hardware, whole oriel windows, it goes on and on.... walk inside at noon and discover a moment later that is five pm and you've missed lunch and never noticed.
The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, patient, and kind. I have purchased an entire house worth on hinges and door handles here -- old things impossible to find but miraculously they were here.
Prices aren't cheap but aren&apos
