CO2Sweep Dry Ice Blasting
Dry ice blasting is an environmentally friendly process that began its development in the '70s. The technology uses rice grain sized dry ice (CO2) pellets propelled with compressed air at speed up to 600 miles/hr. What's different about dry ice is, that when the ice pellet hits the surface to be cleaned it instantly sublimes (converts directly from a solid to a gas) and causes a mini explosion.

The pressure wave, combined with the extreme cold of -79C (-109F) dislodges the contaminants without damaging the substrate. Dry Ice Blasting is a tool that has many applications and uses. The partial list of industries below shows where the use of dry ice has real benefits to the users and the company.

The applications where you might want to consider using dry Ice blasting are those with a restriction on using water, where there are electrical components, or when keeping the secondary clean-up to a minimum is important, such as in toxic & hazardous material cleaning and lead paint removal. All other blast media leave secondary waste behind.

CO2Sweep was started in 2008 by entrepreneur Reid LaFlair with the goal of helping southwestern Ontario businesses improve their facilities and equipment through the use of dry ice blast cleaning technology. Transitioning from an engineering and manufacturing background, while bringing experiences from all sorts of industries has given me an eye into how CO2Sweep can best assist others with their production/cleaning challenges.

Dry ice blasting is a fabulous tool to aid in the maintenance of aircraft without the complications typically associated with traditional cleaning methods. The cleaning of aircraft structural components, & engines allows for a thorough inspection often without having to remove or dismantle the components.
Harnessing the wind and getting the most speed out of it requires that your hull gets some yearly maintenance and prep for the coming season. Dry ice blasting has the ability to remove layers of bottom paint in preparation for a fresh new coat. No additional waste is generated as the dry ice disappears on impact.
When the requirements are to remove all the loose or failing lead-based paint it's important to have a method that doesn't make a bigger mess of the hazardous material that's being removed. Dry ice keeps the disposal efforts to a minimum. Interior brick is a difficult surface to clean unless you have a dry ice blaster available.
