The attic area is the most important part of your home to ensure is properly insulated. As we all know heat rises, and doing so with insufficient insulation, it will just go through the roof (literally), as will your energy bills. Not only older homes but even those built only a few years ago have been found to have insufficient insulation in their attics.
This is only to mention a few. Therefore, if possible, it is a good idea for someone to get up there and check things out. The new BCBC (British Columbia Building Code) requires that new construction homes now have a minimum of R-50 in the attic area, which is approximately 18-20 inches of blown-in material (depending on manufacturer), and ensuring proper ventilation.
If your attic has no ventilation or your home has no attic such as a post and beam or flat roof design then other forms of insulation should be used such as rigid or spray foam insulation. If you should have any of the above concerns call us to schedule your free attic insulation inspection.
