Since 2001, Urban Cedarworks has been creating uniquely hand-crafted cedar garden structures using hand-split cedar and custom milled cedar. We have been adding value to our clients' home and gardens by building cedar structures that are thoughtfully designed and built to last. We draw inspiration from period sources like West Coast, Arts & Craft, Greene & Greene and Mid Century Modern Design.
Our cedar grape-stake fencing material is split from salvaged "old growth" cedar debris, secured from old logging sites. Cedar grape-stakes are produced by splitting a bolt of cedar using a tool called a froe. The unique qualities of cedar grape-stakes include: clear & vertical grained material, unique textures, stunning contrasts of colors, excellent outdoor durability and strength.
At Urban Cedarworks, we design and build quality custom gates using traditional mortise & tenon joinery as well as simpler builds of gates. We take great pride in designing and building gates that will last a lifetime and are in scale with the home & garden setting. These gates can be hand-crafted out of cleft cedar, or milled cedar.
While the plants, shrubs and trees often garner much of the attention in a garden, the structures behind the flora are equally as important. Urban Cedarworks will create a cedar garden structure that is as beautiful as it is functional. We are proud that all of our cedar we use on our projects, is reclaimed and sustainably harvested. Urban Cedarworks has a "Licence to Cut" cedar from the Ministry of Forest, which enables us to salvage old logging debris, and blowdowns from Crown sites on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Urban Cedarworks hire local mills to custom-cut our logs and cants into quality "Rough Cut" cedar lumber.

Working with Wayne and Urban Cedarworks was a great experience. Our garden fence turned out gorgeous and super effective at keeping out all of our pesky rabbits. It was a big, tough job because I asked that a portion of the fence be buried to keep rabbits from digging under, and I got exactly what I asked for. The workmanship was top-notch and beautiful to boot. I can't thank Wayne enough! I highly recommend working with Urban Cedarworks!

Over the last few years Urban Cedarworks has transformed our backyard with four gates, a trellis and a high fence. Wayne is a fabulous craftsman, a skilled problem solver for working around tricky areas, and a pleasure to work with. He is engaging and professional with a great sense of design. Urban Cedarworks has just completed a fence "move" of the original 3-year old fence that Urban Cedarworks built for us, which was beautiful, but we needed to move one side further out to divide our townhouse back yard more accurately with the adjoining one -- the original fence had been built by Urban Cedarworks to an old prior fence footprint which was not at the dividing line between the townhouses but too far inward towards our patio... The fence was skilfully adapted to the new location with a combination of "moving" and rebuilding a new panel or two, plus a really nice gate installed, all
