A heat recovery ventilator (HRV) can help make mechanical ventilation more cost effective by reclaiming energy from exhaust airflows. HRVs use heat exchangers to heat or cool incoming fresh air, recapturing 60 to 80 percent of the conditioned temperatures that would otherwise be lost. Models that exchange moisture between the two air streams are referred to as Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs).
High velocity heating and cooling systems use a special fan coil and air handling unit that generates high pressure air forced through small diameter ducts. The main supply trunk is either a rectangular or round duct that supplies air to flexible, insulated, 2 diameter plastic feeder ducts. Air passes through sound-suppressing tubing at the end of a duct run before entering the room through a plastic collar fitting.
A heat pump can cut your heating costs by up to 60% and provide you with low cost air conditioning in the summer. The LiveSmart BC rebate for an air source heat pump is $1060, or $1420 if it is installed with a 90%+ efficient variable speed furnace. Add the $400 rebate under the Federal ecoENERGY program, and you have a total rebate of $1460-1820.
